Which of the 4 Major Types of Garage Door is Right For YOU?

by | Jun 10, 2020

Your garage door takes up a large portion of the exterior of your home, and isn’t just there for show! The average garage door will raise and lower over one thousand times per year, and is essential to the security of your home.

As such an important heavy lifter in the household, it’s vital you pick the right door for you. Here at Advanced Garage Doors we offer multiple types of garage doors including sectional, roller, tilt, and custom doors for our clients. Let’s take a look at each of the types to figure out which is best for you.

Sectional Garage Doors

If you’re looking for an elegant, sophisticated, and highly functional garage door then the sectional door is for you. As the name suggests, a sectional door is made up of several different panels which allows for easy maintenance and some stylish designs. The extra perk of these panels is that if your P plater reverses with too much gusto and leaves an irreparable ding (oops), you can simply replace one of the panels, rather than the whole door.

When lifted, a sectional door will slide up and sit parallel to your ceiling, which takes up very little headroom. Because of this, these sorts of doors are very popular in homes or storage areas with lower ceilings.

Another situation that the sectional door takes the cake, is for wide openings. Since it’s made of panels it’s quite easy to make a wide door in gorgeous, classic style.

Roller Garage Doors

Roller doors are a fantastic option as they are compact and budget friendly. If you’re using your garage for storage space the roller door is one of the best options, as when it lifts it rolls into one cylinder of metal, similar to rolling up a blind. This storage option has both it’s advantages, and it’s disadvantages. On the positive side, it means the stored garage door doesn’t eat into any of your storage space in the rest of the garage. On the other hand, as it rolls it will use the most headroom at the entrance, so would require a higher ceiling than a sectional door.

If your home has a narrow garage opening, roller doors are often a great option. Their combination of a lower price tag and their compact storage makes them a very popular choice for homeowners.

Tilt Garage Doors

Your tilt door is actually constructed from one large piece of material. At Advanced Garage Doors we love this look, as it gives you a vast range of materials to choose for its construction, so every door seems different! The door opens using a spring hinge, which lifts it up and over, using the least amount of headspace out of our previous two options. Like all good things though, it does come with one small catch! As you open the door, it will “reach” a little forward, do you have to give it a little space (from the outside) as it opens.

If you have a specific vision in mind, these doors are often the way to go.

Custom Garage Doors

If conventional doors just aren’t doing it for you, we also offer custom options. At Advanced Garage Doors we love to get creative. We can help you design, purchase, and install your dream door.

Safety Features Every Garage Door Needs

At Advanced Garage Doors, we love the convenience of automatic garage doors, but we also know how important it is to make sure they are safe. The CPSC’s National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS) in America completed a study that found that there were 13,000 annual reported incidents associated with garage doors! The vast majority of these were due to human error, which means not only is it super important to have top-notch safety features in place, but it is also important to make sure you know them like the back of your hand.

Read on for some of our favourite safety features, that we simply would not go without.
